Our surgical activity is divided into 10 surgery sessions per week, 4 of which concern day time surgery: Day Hospital Surgery (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday).
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 6 surgery sessions are performed, concerning operations with local or peripheral anaesthesia (spinal, epidural, plexus) assisted by the anaesthetist.
The Lugo Hospital district has a surgery sector within the Operative Unit with two operating rooms of the same size, exclusively used for orthopaedic surgery.
The scheduling of programmed surgeries is done by keeping in mind the new organisation method of hospitalisations. In particular, operations that require a longer hospitalisation period are preferably scheduled at the beginning of the week, in order to allow patients to leave the hospital in respect of the normal cycles of the Short Hospitalisation sector; this is why arthroscopic surgery of the knee, as well as other operations after which patients can leave the hospital on the very same day, are all scheduled on Fridays.
The information service for patients has prepared various explicative notes concerning the most common surgeries included in the Orthopaedic surgery section.
